Work-Life Balance for women working from home post Covid-19

Work from home policy is considered to enhance work-life balance The notion of balancing the two domains of people’s lives due to the worse pandemic situation has put the world to rest; by making people stay at home and perform their regular duties through remote working, and this needs attention. There are various factors that affect women’s work-life balance during the lockdown caused by the COVID 19 pandemic. Existence of professional and personal challenges and enhancers for work-life balance amongst working women is found to be the counter effect of COVID-19. Job performance and personal wellbeing are the main determinants of women employees’ work-life balance during work from home. It is the demand of the situation that women realign their policies, benefit programs, work distribution, and make job changes inside the organization for an employee-friendly remote working experience, thereby improving the workforce’s efficiency and productivity.

The national lockdown due to COVID-19 mandated most organizations to shift their business operations so that most of the employees worked from home. During such an unprecedented time, when there is a fear of economic slowdown and layoff, most of the employees experienced stress and work-life interference to give their best performance while working from home. There is a big challenge for working women to balance professional life and personal life. It becomes vital to have work-life balance amongst working women during the lockdown. Most of the working women cannot balance their work and personal life irrespective of their sector, the age group they belong to, the number of children they have, income, and their occupation. The struggle to juggle between work and family responsibilities has emerged as one source of emotional exhaustion experienced by employees during COVID-19-induced nationwide lockdown. During the lockdown, working women struggled to maintain a balance between their professional and personal lives. In such an unprecedented scenario, support from family members, particularly in family-related tasks and responsibilities, could be a great help for working women. It is necessary for organizations to acknowledge women employees by providing more appropriate work-life balance measures for them. Job performance and personal wellbeing are crucial determinants of employees’ work-life balance, alongside their occupations, age, and caring responsibilities. The employer and the employees’ joint commitment should ensure a healthy work-life balance that can bring fruitful results to the organization and employees. Women can yield best results only if there is work-life balance. It improves the organizational health by maximum contribution of efforts and output from women employees.
