A 70–95 GATE score can open different M.Tech opportunities depending on the GATE paper, category, specialisation and institute. Students should not treat one score range as a fixed college cutoff because M.Tech admissions are programme-specific and closing scores can change considerably between rounds. For 2026, CCMT is the common counselling platform for M.Tech admissions to NITs, IIEST Shibpur, several IIITs and CFTIs using GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026 scores. Besst 25 Mtech colleges in india IITs and IISc generally use the COAP process for offer acceptance, while candidates must apply separately to the respective institutes.

Important: If by “70–95 GATE score” you mean the GATE normalized score out of 100, rather than the GATE Score out of 1000, this is a very different range. The table below uses the GATE score out of 1000, which is the standard score used in M.Tech counselling.

Note: These colleges are presented as a shortlist to investigate, not as guaranteed options for every 70–95 score. Actual admission depends on GATE paper, category, qualifying degree, programme, seat availability and counselling round.

Can You Get NITs With a 70–95 GATE Score?

If you mean 70–95 marks, that would represent an extremely high performance and is not the same as a GATE score of 70–95 out of 1000.

If you mean a GATE score of 700–950, many top NIT and IIT programmes may become relevant depending on the branch. For example, CCMT’s 2026 data shows last-round closing scores of 743 for NIT Warangal CSE, 734 for NIT Trichy CSE, 712 for NIT Surathkal CSE, 645 for NIT Rourkela CSE and 641 for NIT Calicut CSE for General-All India candidates.

This demonstrates why students should always check the college + programme + category, rather than relying on one overall GATE cutoff.

M.Tech Admission Through CCMT 2026

CCMT 2026 provides a common platform for M.Tech admissions to participating NITs, IIEST, IIITs and CFTIs. The platform uses GATE scores from 2024, 2025 and 2026, subject to the institute’s eligibility requirements.

The process generally involves:

  1. Registering on CCMT

  2. Entering GATE details

  3. Checking programme eligibility

  4. Filling college and programme choices

  5. Seat allotment

  6. Online document verification

  7. Fee payment

  8. Physical reporting

The official CCMT portal also publishes opening and closing GATE scores for individual programmes and rounds.

    What About IITs and IISc?

IITs and IISc follow a separate admission process from CCMT. COAP is used for accepting M.Tech offers from participating IITs and IISc, but candidates must first apply separately to the institutes.

COAP 2026 includes IISc Bengaluru and IITs such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee and several others.

Therefore, a candidate should not assume that registering for CCMT automatically applies them to IIT M.Tech programmes.

Branch Matters More Than the Overall College

Your chances can vary substantially by specialisation. Popular programmes such as:
