Centre for Career Development (CCD), GIMS, Greater Noida organized the second workshop in the series Aatm-vishleshan – Self Analysis: Know Your Psyche and Personality Style on August 25, 2021. The resource person for the workshop was Dr Shalini Sharma (Area Chair: Communication & Development, CRC). This workshop focused on discovering the conflict management styles of individuals which could help them in introspecting and contemplating the techniques and processes to move towards the ideal conflict handling technique. This could help them mould their behaviour accordingly to grow and sustain in their career and life.

The students were supposed to come prepared with the following before the workshop:

1. Any two conflicts encountered recently (intra or inter)

2. Percentage of responsibility of both the parties involved for the conflict situation?

The workshop opened with a movie clip related to some office conflicts and the result thereof. The students discussed their conflicts and analyzed the probable reason and the parties involved in it. The consensus of the discussion was that most of the participants were hurt because of their emotions and expectations from others. Thereafter, various techniques of conflict handling, Collaborating, Competing, Avoiding, Accommodating, and Compromising were discussed followed by the Conflict Handling Inventory by Thomas Kilmann. The students then assessed themselves using the inventory and the key.

The session has given some insight on the means to adopt to resolve the turmoil going on in everyone’s life.

·         To shed the old baggage, talk and discuss with a clean perspective, no preconceived notions to interfere when you communicate. Trust the other party also.

·         It’s never the fact that you are the only one being cheated in life. What comes around goes around.

·         Focus on your career as it is the top most priority now.
